Jerry Thorsell is a Washington native who grew up with Mount Rainier in his backyard, Puget Sound within rock throwing distance, and the Olympic Mountains through the kitchen window.   The love of such picturesque surroundings is what led Jerry to start to pursue his interest in photography over 20 years ago. 

Jerry started making serious photographs in 1983 while serving overseas in the US Navy.  He was tapped to be the Command Photographer at a number of duty stations, and was fortunate enough to travel much of the world while learning the basics of photography and seeing many interesting places at the same time.  Since retiring from the military in 1994, he has turned his photographic talents toward capturing images of the places and people here in his homeland.  

The decision to turn a hobby into a business came very easily with the prompting of his wife Laura, and Jerry completed formal training courses in Photographic Techniques, Studio Lighting, and The Business of Photography in order to open Cherished Images Photography Inc. in April of 2003.  He spent the past few years photographing weddings, gatherings of Hot Rod cars and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and the interesting people all around him. Jerry states his motivation as, “There is so much beauty  around us, in so many different forms, and I just want to share it with others.” Primarily shooting 35mm film and high resolution digital images, he is able to offer more choices to his clients than shooting in a single format.

Aside from his photographic talents, Jerry earned an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology – Network Support from Bellevue Community College in 2001.  His artistic and technical skills come together as he has designed websites for his former employers, and this site for his new business Cherished Images Photography Inc.  He is also a Ham Radio operator and serves his community when radio communications requirements arise in an emergency or for support of community events.
